WHY PLASTIC IS HARMFUL Plastic is harmful  because it is 'Non-Biodegradable' Plastic bags are not only harmful for our health but also for the health of our environment. They are one of the major causes of environmental pollution. Petroleum based synthetic plastic bags contains polymers that take 1000 of years to degrade. They are nuisance to our aquatic and wildlife. There is extra cost to dispose plastic bags.  Many countries have banned the use of 'plastic' instead they use jute or paper bags. When thrown on land it makes the soil less fertile.
